Apple pie is a beloved dessert featuring a flaky, buttery crust and a warm, spiced apple filling. This homemade recipe will guide you to bake a pie that’s perfect for any gathering or holiday meal. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly comforting treat!

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6-8 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Make the Crust: In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Add cold butter and mix with a pastry cutter or fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Divide in half, shape each half into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until apples are evenly coated.
  3. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Assemble the Pie: Roll out one dough disk on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place it in the dish and fill with the apple mixture. Dot with small pieces of butter.
  5. Roll out the second dough disk and cover the pie. Trim excess dough, crimp the edges to seal, and cut small slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Bake: Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil.
  8. Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before serving.

Tips for Serving and Garnishing:

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. For a more rustic look, dust the top crust lightly with powdered sugar before serving.

Reheating Instructions:

To reheat, place slices in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes or microwave individual portions on medium power for 1-2 minutes.
